Our itinerary for the 20 days trip in late September is as follow.
Berlin 2 days, Potsdam 1 day
Prague 2 days
Vienna 2 days, Salzburg 1 day
Munich 2 days
Innsbruck 1 day
Switzerland 5 days
Paris 2 days
Amsterdam 2 days
Is this itinerary possible for a 20 days trip? If it%26#39;s not possible, I would rather skip Paris and concentrate on the remaining areas.
I%26#39;ve researched on Prague, there%26#39;s so many things to see, but yet so little time. Is 2 days in Prague enough?
If I plan to buy Absinthe, will there be a problem at the customs? I%26#39;ll be travelling with the Absinthe to many countries as mentioned above. I would also be travelling to Ireland and UK.

think you will feel like on a coach tour - if it is Thursday it must be italy. two days is really not long enough to see any of the places above except for Munich. By the time you have arrived on the first day, you need to go home the next and you will not really be able to see anything in the places you are visiting. This is especially so if you are traveling by public transport when many of the journeys between cities are 5 or 6 hours if you go by train
some people can take this, but I would personally become extremely frustrated, let alone staying in a new hotel almost every night. If you are staying for 20 days, try and choose places where you will stay for a minimum of 3 nights. then you will be able to see more than a whistlestop tour will be able to provide
absinthe. understand you can buy this in prague to drink in other EU countries, but you need to consult if you want to take the drink outside of the EU

I%26#39;ve decided to change my route. I would like to go to Germany, Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland. Now that I have an additional 4 days, which place do you think I should spend more time on?
I would be travelling from city to city by train and bus. My first destination would be Berlin and last destination is Zurich.
I was wondering if it%26#39;s possible for me to cover Neuwanstein Castle and the Romantic Road.. I%26#39;m not sure if it%26#39;s on the way or near to one place or another.. If it%26#39;s totally not possible and out of the way, I would like to skip this area.
The reason why I chose Munich was because I would like to experience the Oktoberfest and since I%26#39;m there, I would like to visit the place.
I haven%26#39;t decided which part of Switzerland I would like to travel. I was thinking of Bernese Oberland and maybe at Lucern a day or something. I was thinking of something scenic for both Austria and Swiss. I was thinking more of a %26#39;Sound of Music Tour%26#39;.
How long is it to travel from one city to another? I would be travelling in the following sequence.
Potsdam to Prague, Prague to Vienna, Vienna to Salburg, Salzburg to Munich, Munich to Innsbruck, Insbruck to Lucern.
Thanks in advance!

swuan,
and how do you plan to travel in each area once you get to the city?
An example: once you arrive in Lucern, you will need a car to go to Interlaken, (area of 4 lakes), without a car you will just walk around Lucern, see the new Old wooden bridge ( the old bridge, a landmark of Lucern burned down about 12 years ago, and they rebuilt it, keeping as much of the old aspect as they could) the old town and that%26#39;s about it, and perhaps a short cruise on the lake.
The weather is so strange this year, but let%26#39;s just say that normally by September the foliage change colours and the surrounding areas are just beautiful!
www.sbb.ch will provide timetable to get from Lucern to Zurich as you had mentioned that Zurich is your last point in Switz.
It will take about an hour by train.
Happy planning!

I%26#39;ll be travelling by trains or busses when I get to each area. I%26#39;ve done research and it seems that it%26#39;s quite convenient to get around in Berlin and Potsdam with the WelcomeCard, Prague with the Prague passes, etc.
Is there any Euro passes for me to get around the 4 country for 20 days? Is it better if I purchase the special passes in each individual city?
Is it more convenient to get around in Lucern without a car? Is there any busses going around? If I had to walk, how long would it take my to reach to Interlaken?
Yup, I agree that the weather is strange. I was kind of hoping that it start snowing early then it would be a bonus for me at Switzerland. Quite impossible I know.

potsdamm to prague via the change berlin is over 6 hours, prague to vienna just over 4 hours, vienna to salzburg is 2 hours as is salzburg to munich. as said above, stay a minimum of 3 nights in each place
neuschwanstein can be done in a day trip from munich - you will see many people that organise it. look at www.db.de and www.oebb.at for more details of times and cards. beware that many eurorail cards do not cover the czech republic
the autumn colours only really come in october and in switzerland many of the trees are coniferous so you do not get that fall view as you would in germany or the czech republic

I%26#39;m allocating 5 days in Austria. 3 days in Vienna, 1 day in Salzburg and another day in Innsbruck.
Should I travel Vienna - Salzburg - Innsbruck - Munich
or
Vienna - Salzburg - Munich - Innsbruck
Is there any bus or trains that can get me to this places? If I%26#39;m travelling from Vienna to Salzburg, will it take me to the alpine?
|||
Swuan,
No, you can not walk from Lucern to Interlaken!
I shall do some search and see if you can take a regional bus between the two places as there are such things as regional buses in Switz. but they are used mainly for remote areas.
To see snow or a snow capped mountain top you will have to go to Murren and Schilthorn but if you do not have a car it will be quite complicated!
Peb7,
I beg to differ!
A few years ago we hire a %26quot;chalet%26quot; in the mountain, not far away from Lucern, Interlaken, Murren, etc. and it%26#39;s early September as the first Thursday of September is a holiday in Geneva, and the colours are simply gorgeous!
Of course one could say that it all depends on the weather one has on a particular year, and as far as 2007 goes, nothing would surprise me as we have been having quite an unusual weather!
BTW we are really looking forward to go back to Prague in September, and are wondering what kind of weather we shall have then!
|||
Peb7,
I meant to say that we hired a chalet in the mountain but the fall colours could be seen all the way from the mountain down!

swuan,
Try swisstravelsystem.ch. You can choose between english, deutsch, french and italian.
Hope this helps.

Rieu,
I was thinking of spending
3 days at Lucern
- Mount Pilatus
- Mount Rigi
- Mount Titlis
- Lake Lucern
3 days around Bernese Oberland
Grindelwald
Interlaken - Thun Lake, Brienz Lake
Lauterbrunnen - Staubbach Falls, Trummelbach Falls, Jungfrau, Schilthorn
Murren
Wengen
1.5 days Zurich
I have no experience hiking but I%26#39;ve been training on the treadmill for a month. I was thinking of trying a mountain myself, but I do not know which I should attempt. Another mountain, I was thinking of taking the funicular up or something. Any advice? I heard there is a mountain that has snow all year round. I%26#39;m not sure if that%26#39;s true. Jungfrau if I%26#39;m not wrong. Can%26#39;t remember where I saw it. Even a mountain with snow cap would be good!
If I get my way up to any mountain, do you suggest I put a night at the hostels around or get back down? How long does it take to reach to the top walking or by funicular?
How do you suggest I plan my itinerary? I would like to visit a fall but I%26#39;m not sure which. I would prefer if it covers everything I should see
in Switzerland. (lake, mountain, alp, quaint villages, etc)
I%26#39;m travelling with 2 other ladies, do you think it%26#39;s safe for the 3 of us ladies to do all this on our own or get a tour guide with us?
Thanks. Will look into the website you%26#39;ve given me.
