Yes. The train ride is about 4 hours or so. I think it cost about 80 euro or so, round trip. I did it and spent about 8 hours in Vienna. Bring your passport with you to show the police at the border.

The pickpockets are there but just be cognizant of who%26#39;s around, especially in crowded areas, and make sure everything is tucked and fastend away. And don%26#39;t worry! It happens but if you%26#39;re on top of things, you%26#39;ll be fine. Never saw one pickpocket last time I was there.

shorter and cheaper is the train to Dresden, Germany...

vienna is a long day by train 4 hours each way. as heinokules says, dresden in germany is easier only 2.5 hours by train and well worth to see.

on pickpockets, there are unfortunately people who make a good living from this in prague, but the vast majority of cases are opportunist (and these people can spot the opportunity). rucksack on back in crowded metro or tram, bag put down unattended in restaurant or on a busy street when taking photos, wallet hanging out of pocket.

prague is thankfully an extremely safe place to walk around, even at night - there are very few muggings and violent crime is almost non existent. if you take sensible precautions as you would walking round your own town and not a leisurely holiday attitiude, you should have little problems
