changing dollars to czech koruna

has anyone changed their dollars at prague international airport for czech koruna and what did they get??i know the rate of exchange is about 2l koruna for one us dollar($1.00) but i know i will never get that rate. i don%26#39;t want the ATM machines the fees when i get my bill from the credit card company are very high. thanks

the rate of course changes every day. it is interesting that there a remarkably few complaints about the exchange offices at the airport as opposed to exchange offices in the city centre

|||

On www.kolik.cz you see the latest exchange rates in town.

|||

when exchanging in town be very careful as for a low amount in Dollars you will get a very bad rate and only a good rate above a certain minimum amount. ALWAYS ask how much you are going to get in your hands for a certain amount in Dollars.

I%26#39;ve recently changed some Euro%26#39;s on Wenceslas square number 17! It%26#39;s a hallway, 20 meters inside on the left is a little exchange both, it says outside you%26#39;ll get what you see and it is true. They even show you on a calculator how much you%26#39;ll get befor you hand them the money. The rate was ok. 27, 80 for the Euro...

I%26#39;d always use ATMs but if you have to change, try this place...

|||

thank you very much for your replies. i know i will get a lousy rate at the airport -m i believe the official rate is at least right now about 20.4 korunas for one us dollar - but places like travelex will offer you about 17.5 korunas for one us dollar - there is a bank called CSOB at the ruzyne airport but it probably is the same thing - i refuse to run all around prague looking for good rates at banks downtown and ATMs a good rate but when i get back home the fees on my credit card forget it. i will make the best of whatever they give me at the airport and enjoy my trip to prague. thank you again much appreciated.

I think it%26#39;s completely unnecessary to be volutarily getting ripped-off by Travelex if you don%26#39;t have to. My advice would be to buy a 24 hr. public transport pass (80 CZK), pay with a card for it and take the 119 bus + metro A to downtown. Exit on Malostranska take one flight of the moving stairs and there%26#39;s a small exchange office with fair prices. Another option is www.eXchange.cz which is just off the Old Town Sq, just behind the church - impossible to miss.

You know things will never change for the better in Prague as long as those dishonest crooks will still earn business no matter how notorious their dirty tricks are and how many times people have been warned.

does the prague transport authority offices at the airport accept credit cards? especially for such a low amount as 80 crowns?

if you really do not have czech crowns and are banking on obtaining money (via ATM or an exchange office) in the centre, most of the taxis at the airport and the private transport companies which pick people up accept euros.

|||

%26quot;does the prague transport authority offices at the airport accept credit cards?%26quot;

YES. They have stickers with Visa, Visa Electron, MasterCard, Maestro. Not sure about Diners.

%26quot;especially for such a low amount as 80 crowns?%26quot;

Technically they should sell you even the 14 or 20 CZK ticket. You would probably get a %26quot;WTF%26quot; kind of stare from the staff, but that%26#39;s just because they are lazy nothing else.

AFAIK bank%26#39;s rental terms %26amp; conditions for the card swipe machine prohibit setting any minimum limits on payment.

I pay %26gt;100 CZK amounts with a card all the time. I%26#39;ll be at at the airport tomorrow so I%26#39;ll try to test it.

BTW, what other place would the Prague Transportation Co. expect people to frequently pay with a card if not at the airport???

|||

LKHK. Your are obviously one of the people I frustratingly stand behind at the supermarket checkout every day who takes two minutes to pay for a couple of bread rolls with your credit card

|||

The moment my bank stops chaging me 35 CZK for withdrawing my money from their ATM I will be more than happy to pay cash.

But then by not charging ridiculous fees for EVERYTHING the banks would hardly have those obscene profits they have.
