meteor plaza, iron gate or another?

Hi

I%26#39;m torn between two hotels and two locations and wondered if anyone can assist me in making a decision.

My boyfriend and I are taking a trip to Prague at the end of August. It%26#39;ll be our first holiday together and we want to make it fairly romantic, but with just three nights and not an extensive budget I%26#39;m struggling to make a decision.

I have found a good rate for the Best Western Meteor Plaza Hotel located just east of Powder Gate. It gets good reviews and the location appears to be ok for old town, just not sure about the castle area and evening entertainment / restaurants.

An alternative idea is to spend more money (approx an extra £100 or 140 euros for the whole trip) in the Iron Gate Suites just off the main square in Old Town and much closer to Charles Bridge.

On the other hand, a friend has recommended we stay on the western bank of the river for a much quieter and romantic visit to Prague. But I cannot find any nice hotels which are not beyond my budget - ideally no more than £100 / 140 euros per night.

My boyfriend is tall and we need a king size bed. Ideally, we%26#39;d like a jacuzzi bath or such facilities at the hotel.

Help!

Elaine :)

I have not stayed on the Castle side of the river and have not stayed in the Meteor Plaza. But I have stayed in the Iron Gate Suites. I think the location is superb. It is set in a lovely part of Prague near the Old Town Square. You can get to Old Town Square within a few minutes via the front entrance. Also there is a back entrance you can use to get to Charles Bridge. The suites in the hotel are huge. Ours was so big that it could easily accomodate a couple living there full time. The hotel also has a lovely garden courtyard. There are also many retaurants and pubs in the area. However there was no jacuzzi in our suite although other more expensive suites in the hotel may have them. Also if you have your windows open there is quite a bit of noise at night time as both the back and front of the hotel are on relatively busy streets.

I have also read good reports about the Meteor Plaza. I think the location is good especially as its very near to the Metro station. Its only about a 10 minute walk to Old Town Square. You will still have many restaurants and pubs/bars within a 10-15 minute walk. Yes the Charles Bridge and Castle Area are further away. But you do have a Metro station very near to Meteor Plaza from where you can access the Castle side of the river within minutes.

I have not stayed on the castle side of the river before so I will let other people give you a better idea of what its like.

Personally I think either of the three options are good choices. If I really had to pick one then it would be the Iron Gate again based purely on the location.

Hope this helps

mala strana on the castle side of the river is quieter than the old town. you may though want to think about dropping the insistence of a jacuzzi bath if you want to have your price limit satisfied. try looking at the hotel constans or u karlovu mostu for something on the castle side of the river
