Evening all!
I%26#39;m off to Prague in a week, just wondered if anyone had any suggesting for a few good museums? I fancy the Motor one and a few others- any suggestions?
Oh, and how far away is Dresden from Prague by train? is it worth me going there for the day?
thanks everyone!

I think it depends on how many days you%26#39;re staying in Prague.?
|||
Dresden is about 3 hours.
I like the Mucha Museum. It is small, it is in the center, and Art Nouveau is cool.
|||
Oh, and I found Dresden interesting for the following reasons:
It was almost completely destroyed during the war.
They have done a nice job restoring a small historical section.
Damaged historical areas are still there so you can feel the devastation of the past.
You can see and feel what East German architecture was like.

thanks guys! i%26#39;m there for five days :)
|||
If you have five days, Dresden is worth a day trip!

You might want to try the Aviation museum in Prague-Kbely. They have a very decent collection incl. a rare 2-seat Me-262 fighter jet or just recently renovated Tu-104A jetliner.

I just drove to Dresden and it is only 1.5 hours away, the last part of the motorwar was finished last year. So it is really quick now.
My favourite exhibition is in the Lapidarium, where the original statues from the Charles Bridge are rebuilt and the remainders of the original Maria statue from the Old Town Square.

I love the Lapidarium as well, loooking at bits od old statues may not sound very interesting but it beautifully presented and gives you a feel for the history of Prague. I thought, the Museum of Communism, although small, was very interesting and well worth a visit as well.
The bad news is that the marvellous National Technical Museum is closed for reconstruction. The Agricultural Museuem next door has the same amazing inter-war modernist architecture but laughably dull exhibits. The National Museum on Wenceslas Square is similarly worth visiting for the architecture but not for the stuffy formally-presented contents in my opinion

the Tech Museum%26#39;s closed? Dang! (i%26#39;d use worse expletives, but the site won%26#39;t let me! hehe!)
i%26#39;ve been to prague once before and missed it, ah well. maybe another time!
one more question (and one you get asked a lot i%26#39;m sure) - can you recommend a nice pub near the centre that does good/cheep beer and will be quiet enough to work and read in for a few hours? do they even exist? lol
thanks again!

If you%26#39;re more then one person, renting a car could be worth a try. It%26#39;s faster and cheaper. I%26#39;ve used Alimex CZ befor, just checked the prices. The smallest car is now 750 Czk around 28 Euros. Return train ticket is 39 Euros per person.
My regular bar near the centre is Jama, v jame street beside Wenceslas square. Usually quiter between lunch and dinner, free Wi-Fi, Gambrinus 35 Kc. There%26#39;s cheaper places everywhere though but I%26#39;m not sure which one%26#39;s are quite.
