I%26#39;ve read a good deal about transport from the airport to your hotel, but I have a question.
As I do not care to blow about $35 - $45 USD on a cab (from what I read) it seems rather simple to get into town using a bus and the metro.
I%26#39;m young and packing light (just a backpack) so I don%26#39;t have to struggle with bags. I%26#39;m staying just off Wenceslas Square.
According to Wikitravel, I can take an Airport Express bus to the Nádraží Holešovice station, then take the Metro-C line to the Muzeum station, with a quick walk to my hotel. This would all be just a few dollars, if I understand correctly.
My flight arrives at 19:00, so the buses should still be running. Does anyone think that this is more complicated than it sounds?

Hi
The easiest way with public transportation would be bus nr 119 from the airport to metro station Dejvicka, and metro to either Mustek or Muzeum. Mustek is at the bottom of Wenceslas Square and Muzeum at the top.
This should cost you one ticket at 20Kc (1$) and take ca35 min.
Buses leave every ten minutes. There is a ticket office just at the exit. I usually buy a tree day ticket for 220Kc or a seven day for 280
to be able to use whatever tram, bus, or metro i want.
There is also a shuttle bus service named Cedaz wich take you to Nam Republicky (6-700 meters from Wenceslas Square) for 120Kc, buses every 30 min.
I havent used taxi myself but the word is to only use AAA taxis and be aware of other drivers.

Airport Express is one option, but regular bus is in your case much better option because regular buses run more ofthen than AE.
Take the 119 bus (runs every 10 minutes) to Dejvicka (last stop) and then transfer to metro A (entrance is just next to the bus stop), exit either at Mustek or Muzeum (both are on Venceslas Sq.)
You will need a 20 CZK ticket (70 minutes unlimited travel) or you also might want to consider the 24hr /72hr ticket for 80/220 CZK (good for any tram, bus and metro in Prague + the funicular train to Petrin).

DON%26#39;T FORGET to validate your ticket in the yellow box with green light as soon as you board the bus.

There are Prague Transportation Authority (DPP) booths in both arrival halls just as you exit customs and they do accept plastic money.

This may seem a silly question but how far is the airport from the centre of prague? i have not taken much notice as transfers have been arranged by our hotel.
|||
Thanks very much for the good advice.

Just to make sure I have this right, if I buy the 3 day pass, I only need to have it stamped on the FIRST bus I use. After that, I only have to keep it with me when I travel the bus/metro.
Also, will I be able to purchase the 3 day pass at a Prague Transportation Authority (DPP) booth?
(I appreciate your help. The English translation on the DPP website is somewhat confusing.)

%26quot;This may seem a silly question but how far is the airport from the centre of prague?%26quot;
Some 13 km counting from the Charles Bridge as hypothetical centre point.
%26quot;Just to make sure I have this right, if I buy the 3 day pass, I only need to have it stamped on the FIRST bus I use. After that, I only have to keep it with me when I travel the bus/metro.%26quot;
That is 100% correct.
%26quot;Also, will I be able to purchase the 3 day pass at a Prague Transportation Authority (DPP) booth?%26quot;
Yes. Booths at the airpot are open every day 7-22.
The pass looks exactly like the tickets shown on their web I linked earlier, only the value shown will be of course 220 CZK

For this type of short-term pass you do NOT need any photo.

Thanks again, you%26#39;ve been a great help.

to wenceslas square, by public transport as others have said, take airport bus 119 from the airport to metro devjicka where the bus ends and the metro begins. then take green line metro to either mustek or to muzeum metro, depending on where your hotel is located. cost is 20 crowns plus a 10 crown luggage ticket if your luggage is more than aircraft hand luggage (if you have a 3 or 7 day public transport card, you do not need a luggage ticket). buses go every 10 minutes or so in the evening as to metros, so the journey may take about an hour.
for the record, taxi to the centre, should not cost more than 600 crowns
