Hotel deal

Hi

To celebrate my 40th birthday in Sept I am looking to take a few friends to Prague. I want to stay in a nice hotel as near to the Old Town Square as possible. Problem - my friends can only afford to spend about £250 on the trip including flights and hotel. Flying from Manchester.

Any advice - have tried Expedia but no direct flights so I will have to book the flight seperately to the hotel. I have a total of 8 people going -

bmi baby is flying direct from manchester as well as czech airlines, jet 2, aeroflot, korean air and malev-hungarian airlines.don%26#39;t know how much the flights are but you may have to look for a hostel, apartment, B%26amp;B instead, if you wanna have some money left to celebrate.

Let us know the budget, after you booked the flight. vwould be also interesting to know, how many days you%26#39;re going to stay.

Flights - check both BMI and Czech airlines. Do not fly back on a Sunday, this is the busiest time for Prague-UK flights. If you can take the Monday off work you will save a significant amount of money. If you can also take the Friday off and fly out on Thursday evening, this will be much cheaper still. If you are flexible on dates you should be able to get flights for £100 each.

It may be worthwhile checking the prices of flights from Liverpool too.

Renting an apartment in Prague can be significantly cheaper than a hotel and you tend to get better quality for the amount you pay. Check through the recommendations on this site.

There is no need to stay need the old town. Prague is small and the publc transport is excellent, very frequent and very cheap. A one- week travel pass is about £5. Consider staying in Smichov, Vinohrady, Nove Mesto areas, which are all adjacent to the old town .and there will be trams every few minutes. These areas also all have very very good restaurants, but the prices are much lower than the ones in Old Town.

If you want to do something %26quot;special%26quot; why not get tickets to the opera or ballet? I%26#39;ve sat in the cheapest seats in the house at the State Opera House for £6 - and it was still excellent. Go to the State Opera (Statni Opera), National Theatre (Narodni Divadlo) or Estates Theatre ( Stavovské divaldo). However, be cautious of people handing out flyers on the street for musical performances, these are bad quality, and bizzarely, more expensive than going to see the national and state theatres.

for the record, czech airlines, bmi baby and jet2 fly manchester to prague. the aeroflot, malev and korean air flights are codeshare flights where there you take an onward connection, which you will not do.
