6 Full Days in Prague - Young Couple - Help!

Okay, so we%26#39;re headed to Prague next week for 6 days/6 nights. We%26#39;re late 20%26#39;s/early 30%26#39;s and are staying at Hotel 987 (we like sleek design and a hip, urban atmosphere). When we usually travel, we don%26#39;t try and cram a ton of stuff into our trip. We may do a museum once on the trip, but we mainly go to %26quot;experience%26quot; the city, the cafes, the people, the bars, etc.

I understand the bridge is key, the castle, the Jewish Quarter. What else would you recommend for a young couple that will probably go out late at night and sleep till noon every day? Are there certain parts of the city that attract a younger crowd? Should we try and do a day trip somewhere (we have to keep our hotel room all 6 nights)? I bought a guidebook, but I%26#39;m never good at following what they say and they are generally geared towards go-getters who get up in the morning and try and maximize their day with attractions.

Are there special pubs/restaurants that have a neat vibe that we shouldn%26#39;t miss? What about shopping? Not for clothes, but more for objects for the home, antique or otherwise? Cool bands to go listen to? I%26#39;m really at a loss because we usually go to places that we%26#39;re more familiar with in the summer like Mykonos or Barcelona or London, so branching out is making me a little nervous.

Thanks in advance!

If you want one museum, try the Mucha Museum. It is in the center and small, but gives you a good understanding of the master of Art Nouveau.

MischMasch is a popular club now, but a little away from the center. Duplex is ia club on Wenceslas Square, but I%26#39;m told a little touristy (Mick Jagger did celebrate his 60th birthday there). On Friday and Saturday night, Lucerna Music Bar on Wenceslas Square has 80s video night. It is always packed -- a very young crowd, surprisingly. The hall is old -- feels like a retro journey to another time.

Near Old Town Square: Tretter%26#39;s Cocktail bar has a cool, yuppie crowd near Old Town Square -- Tynska Bar and Books nearby is more laid back (usually). M1 Secret Lounge between the two is a younger crowd and usually has a DJ. Not big.

It depends who%26#39;s playing, but U Maleho Glena in Mala Strana has live music , jazz or blues, in a tiny little room. Get there early or book. Ungelt has good blues. Vagon has a very Czech rock music program, more locals, big underground space in the center -- could be interesting for you: http://www.vagon.cz/

Chateau is a grungy bar near Old Town Sq that also has a disco in the basement -- if lost, follow the smell of the weed from people smoking out front: http://www.chateaurouge.cz/en/

Celnice near Obecni Dum has good Czech food and Pilsner Urquell and a disco in the basement.

I write Prague%26#39;s only English-language restaurant blog -- it might give you some eating ideas:

many of the good bars that brewsta points out are in a triangle of streets bordered by dlouha and mala stupartska streets and the old town square. la bodeguita del medio on kaprova street on the other side of the old town square is another popular hangout for a cocktail bar / restaurant. roxy on dlouha street often has some interesting bands playing

why are guidebooks only aimed at people who get up early in the morning? there are enough things that a guidebook tells you about prague that you can go in half a day

at the 987, be sure to avoid a room at the front of the hotel. with the tramline outside, you may struggle to sleep anytime let alone till midday

Thanks for all the advice. I%26#39;m definitely printing out your list. Also, on Hotel 987, I should avoid the front rooms and try and stay at the back of the hotel? Does it matter whether I am high up or not?

rooms on the upper floors will obviously be quieter than rooms on a lower floor
