Prague: overall experience a positive one

Hello friends,

just came back from trips to prague, vienna and budapest. Prague is a lovely country, the buildings are pleasing to the eyes and the people are nice and friendly. We stayed at Hilton Prague just slightly outside the touristic spot at Florenc but had no problem travelling to the castle district or the jewish quarter. The metro is easy to use and it takes one trip or two to get use to the tram system. Try not to use the taxi as they are not honest; we%26#39;re charged 500 czech crowns for a trip near the Manesuv most to our hotel although the meter is used (imagined the payment from airport to hotel only costs us 600 czech crowns) and the driver provides us a receipt that is illegible. We ate at six restaurants (Hilton%26#39;s Grill house, David at castle, Brasserie La Provence, La Perle de Prague, Slavia and Chez Marcel. Prices of the first four restaurants are about the same level. The only dissapointment is David where we%26#39;re charged for the bread and the bill is inflated by about 400 czech crowns. One should try the La Perle de Prague; although not cheap but the experience is worth it. Overall our trip to Prague a refreshing one and once again a big thank you to the people in Prague.

don%26#39;t know how many of you there were but the cover charge at david is 30 crowns and is clearly stated on the menu so when they charge it it is not a rip off. perle de prague has a lovely view and you pay for the view. am surprised that you have put this in the same price league as david and brasserie la provence. glad you ate in the hilton grill house. many people ignore hotel restaurants but the hilton grill house gives good czech food at not rip off prices

Hi Pep,

not sure about the cover charge but there are only two of us. We%26#39;ve paid about close to 3950 czech crowns for the dinner (starter + main + sparkling water + a glass of white + a bottle of red wine + 400 czech crowns as tips). The bottle of wine was inflated by about 400 czech crowns from 1000+ to 1400 czech crowns (noticed that only back in hotel as friend paid the bill). From that meal onwards, my friend left me to settle the bills for all our meals in Prague. By the way the dissapointment is not just the rip off but also the quality of the food (food taste OK, nothing special and the presentation of food needs improvement). The ambience of the restaurant is fine with a rustic feel, service is OK with only two service staffs. Although La Perle de Prague is expensive (the bill comes to 4000 czech crowns), the view + the service and the food make it value for money in my opinion. We do not mind pay extra for good food and good service but definitely not when the quality is not there and at the same time pay extra for nothing.

3950 crowns is a very large amount for david (do not know what you had to eat, but when we eat there, our bill for two comes to about 2500 crowns).

I would also feel I had not got value for money if my bill had come to that much
