A previous poster (Rieu) mentioned that the normal admission price to Strahov does not let you into the actual library - you instead only see a very limited section from outside. He/she mentioned that to actually see the famous library properly you had to pay 400kz and book in advance.
Has anyone done this? I couldn%26#39;t find anything on the Strahov monastery website about this and e-mailed two weeks ago but have not received a response.

hello ponaire,
We paid 80 crowns each just to see it from the outside. We were in a corridor, and had to crane our neck to look at the celing, the walls, etc. it was very dark in the corridor too. My husband was upset and considers this a %26quot;rip off%26quot; and I fully understand how he feels.
When I saw there%26#39;re people inside, i.e. actually inside the library rooms per se, I inquired and was told one has to book a week in advance and it is, to quote the lady who works there, a%26quot;special reservation%26quot;
Is there a czech cinsulate?tourism office in your are where you can inquire?
Also, from what I understand, the 400 ticket would allow you to see part
of the monstery too
good luck and have fun in Prague
Let us know how it works out for you

Ponaire,
Be patient %26amp; they will respond.
It might take a bit of time because this is high tourist season.
I received a very lovely e-mail response to my request just recently.

Thanks guys!
Martha,
Can I ask what e-mail you used? I sent one to the Head Office - the ukstrahov email but I%26#39;m wondering if I should have sent it to one of the librarians?
Thanks for your help - and reaasurance!

Ponaire,
We used libor.sturc@strahovskyklaster.cz or art.strahov@volny.cz
I%26#39;m not sure which because the e-mail was forwarded to someone else for a response.

to go in the library itself you do need a special permission - purely because the books there are historic. do not know about the fee for doing this, but the contact details are on the strahov monastery website
www.strahovskyklaster.cz where the information is in english

Our response was from Erika.
The charge is 400 CZK per person plus 1200 CZK for the tour guide for 2008.
