ATMs on the weekend

I have read in this forum that it is best to use the ATMs at banks. We are arriving on a Saturday, so I am assuming that I will have to use nonbank ATMs. Is it possible that banks have vestibules with the ATM inside and that they keep the entry door unlocked? Should I consider using the ATMs at the airport instead?

There are a few ATM terminals (not at banks) all together at the far end of the airport arrival hall (to the right). I think these should be used to get money. At several places in town there are also non-bank ATM%26#39;s (like at the zoo ) but it was enough for me to have used the ones at the airport. Their location far away from the arriving passengers make it a safe place to withdraw money.

There are 4 ATMS at the far end of the exit terminal on the back wall just past all the currency exchange booths.

There are indoor and outdoor ATM%26#39;s in Prague. They are not all over the place but they are there. Ceska Sportilina is one of the major banks there with ATM. The other is HVC, I think.

the advice below depend on which terminal you arrive in. The ATMs at terminal 1 (e.g. fly direct from the US or connect through London) are on the back wall next to the airport door when you come through customs., the ATM%26#39;s at terminal 2 (if you connect through any other european country apart from the UK) are at the far right hand end of the arrivals hall once you have cleared customs.

These ATM%26#39;s are so well used that they should not have been tampered with, but just run your hand over them to make sure. There are many banks with ATM%26#39;s in the city centre and if you let us know where you are staying we can hopefully point one out to you which is near your hotel

Peb7, we will be staying at an apartment at Elisky Krasnohorske 9, Praha 1. We have transportation that will be meeting us at the airport, so I was hoping to avoid using the ATMs there. However, perhaps that is the best solution since we are arriving on a weekend. All suggestions are much appreciated. Also, do you know if a grocery or convenience store is located close by? We will want to buy coffee, paper products, etc. Thanks.

if you want a really safe ATM (the one that I use), got to the komercni banka branch on the corner of celetna and na prikope streets in the old town about 10 minutes walk away. at evenings and weekends (at the na prikope street entrance), you open the door to the ATM room with your ATM card - during working hours there is an automatic door to the ATM room from the celetna main entrance to the bank branch

I plan on following the advice here, too, but Peb7, would you explain what you mean about examining the ATM machine by touch? What should I look for to see if it%26#39;s been tampered with, other than obvious damage?

most ATM scams include false covers on the place where you put your card in which copies the details of the card and a false cover above the keyboard which contains a camera to photograph your PIN code. I have never come across one, but it is said on many websites that if you run your fingers around both areas that if there are false covers you can find them. at any rate, cover your hands when you type in the PIN code.

It must be said though that ATM scams in the Czech Republic (at least at ATM%26#39;s in actual banks, rather than the stand alone machines you find at shopping centres is much lower than in other countries

Hi

Still be careful if you use a bank ATM, my son used one inside a bank in Manchester, was watched and his pocket picked as he left the branch, luckily he noticed his wallet missing within a second or two and went straight back into the bank and reported it, so all he lost in actual cash was the £10 he had just got out to buy a cd.

The thieves managed to spend well over £2,000 before the card was stopped but because he had reported it immediately all the money was returned to his account.

I always run my hands over the ATM before putting my card in it, anything loose or that moves to my slight pressure and I walk away and find another one. Also my partner stands right behind me so that noboby can see over my shoulder, and I shield my pin number with my other hand, also one other thing we never use hotel computers for internet banking.

It all sounds a bit cloak and dagger but we do it without thinking now, a couple of seconds of extra security and it stops people ruining your holiday. Not taking the extra precautions is like leaving your handbag open with your purse exposed for anyone to take.
