Hi All,
I%26#39;m visiting prague this september for 5 days and was wanting to go on one of the tours to a castle/town/place outside prague, question is which ones would be the best to see? I intend to book it on prague experience and have the following choices:
Karlstejn Castle Sightseeing Tour
Konopiste Castle Sightseeing Tour
Karlovy Vary Sightseeing Tour
Cesky Krumlov Sightseeing Tour
Kutná Hora Sightseeing Tour (UNESCO)
Terezin Memorial Sightseeing Tour
Thanks for your help
Colin

%26#39;best%26#39; will depend very much on your taste. some of the above may be liked by some and not liked by some, although my choice if you only had one choice is to go to cesky krumlov
karlstejn and konopiste are castles. karlstejn is much more spectacular than konopiste. you can get to both karlstejn and konopiste by direct train from prague much cheaper than you can on a guided tour
karlovy vary is a spa town in the mountains. again you can get to karlovy vary much cheaper by public bus than you can on a guided tour (unless the guided tour includes a tour of the moser glass works which is some way out of town).
kutna hora is an old silver mining town with a unique bone church outside the city centre. guided tours can be useful here because of the distance but the journey can still be made by direct train from prague
cesky krumlov is a medaeval town with a fairytale castle. guided tours are useful here as the town is over 3.5 hours by public transport from prague
terezin is a concentration camp. local buses are not modern.

I highly recommend the impressive Karlstejn Castle, you can catch the hourly train there (61CZK) which takes under an hour and pay for the English tour (220CZK) inside. I think the tour is much more expensive.
Cesky Krumlov is a nice, cute, charming little town which I think is a must-see. Sort of a mini Prague, in a way. Best to stay overnight given that it takes 3 hours travel time to get there, but if a daytrip is all your schedule permits I still recommend visiting it.
