Does anyone know if you have to have your passport with, say, six months validity on it before its expires as a condition of entry into The Czech Republic?
Any info received much appreciated.

yes, six months validity for a passport is needed. however if you are an EU citizen, you can use your identity card to enter the country instead of your passport

Peb7, is is my understanding that for American citizens the passport must be valid for 3 months beyond the intended stay, is that correct?
|||
90 days is when the passport must be valid until beyond the time when you intend to leave europe. apologies, my earlier post was incorrect
|||
Peb7, do you mean that the passport must be valid for 90 days from the day that an American citizens enters the Czech Republic? Is there an official website that specifies this kind and other entry regulations?
Thank you for all your info.

no 90 days from the date you intend to leave. the reason I have put Europe and not the Czech Republic is that let%26#39;s say you go to Germany or France after the Czech Republic, they have the same rules and therefore you need to make sure that the passport is valid 90 days after you leave Europe for good. from looking at google, you can find the following websites
the czech embassy in the US website
www.mzv.cz/wwwo/default.asp…
talks about your passport needing to be valid for 6 months from the date of arrival which is the general rule
The US Department of State website
…state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1099.html
says that passports must be valid 90 days after the end of your intended stay which is the exception to the general rule for US citizens
next year of course, none of this may apply and you may well need a visa as a US citizen simply to enter the Czech Republic, irrespective of how long your passport lasts

I can not understand why the website of the Czech Republic in Washington will not have the exception of rule for American Citizens. I was really concerned and I am still planning to call them, since my wife%26#39;s passport expires in January and we are going in August, obviously air tickets and hotels are already purchased...
I thank you peb07 for all the good information that you provide. By the way, how did you become a %26quot;Prague expert%26#39;?

I would suggest that you do contact the Czech embassy to confirm the exact rules. the Czech government sets the rules for entry into their country, not the US State Department

%26quot;I can not understand why the website of the Czech Republic in Washington will not have the exception of rule for American Citizens.%26quot;
The US government has no exceptions for Czech citizens either. At least we don%26#39;t hassle Americans with visa or fingerprint them like criminals.

LKHK, you misunderstood my comment, but anyhow my concern is that everywhere I checked, the entry regulations from the Czech Republic for American citizens is no visa required and the passport that must be valid for 3 months. In the embassy%26#39;s website (which I understand that is the one that counts) says 6 months...
