First Time Solo Female Traveler - (19yrs old - Any Advice?)

I am traveling alone through Europe for my first time ever, and being only 19 years old, I am some what skeptical of all the online sights promoting hostels, etc. I would love some input of where to go and what to do from people opposed to online programs. Does anyone have any advice regarding places to stay away from, areas notorious for crime, or little pieces of insight into the culture that help solo traveling? I am really looking for any help I can get to make this trip exciting and memorable, for the right reasons of course.

I was also wondering if there is just anything amazing that I cannot miss in Prague - I have yet to plan exactly where I am going and wanted to see what others said before setting everything in stone. - Thanks!

Don%26#39;t miss Old Town Square, all of the beautiful churches, St. Vitus cathedral, and the bridge. I would not stay in the Wenceslas Sq area. Stay in new or old town it%26#39;s more quaint and I think a lot safer. Plus you%26#39;ll be near all of the %26quot;not to be missed%26quot; sights.

Prague is beautiful. All of the buildings have character. Just walking around is a treat. Nothing is more beautiful than their sky around 9:45 - 10pm at night. It is the most amazing shade of blue.

Prague is not known for much violent crime and, using common sense, it is pretty safe to walk around at night.

There is a serious problem with petty theft and pickpocketing, especially on public transport and crowded tourist areas. A common tactic is a team of pickpockets will crowd you or block your way on a tram or metro and if your stuff isn%26#39;t well hidden, there is not too much you can do.

Don%26#39;t leave valuables in the open, in coats on the back of chairs, or bags underneath them in restaurants. One distraction and they are gone.

Don%26#39;t worry too much. Just be aware, and you%26#39;ll be fine.

as brewsta says, prague is safe at night, even for females. The biggest problems you will have is with the drunken english stag parties all wanting to make out with you if you are in the wrong place.

for meeting people, jama pub on v jame street near wencelas square is a good place where many young americans, travellers and locals meet up
