Football (Soccer for us Americans)

I will be visiting Prague on the 26th of September for 3 days and would very much like to attend a football match. I am unsure of the actual timeframe or length of the season and any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I am also unsure of the venues that accomodate said events (T Mobile Arena?). Price is not necessarily an issue, but rather seeing the highest caliber of play is what interests me most. Thanks in advance.

Czech football league is pathetic, corrupt show for the drunk retards who for some reason still believe the game is decided on the field. No wonder the games have such low attendance.

If you want a real football experience in Europe go to a top league game in Germany, Italy, UK or Spain. Believe me

Thank you for your insight and speedy response. I will be in Berlin and Amsterdam prior to my arrival in Prague. Sounds like you would recommend Berlin for a %26quot;true%26quot; European soccer experience?

|||

Either Berlin or Amsterdam, check the respective home game schedules for Hertha Berlin and/or Ajax Amsterdam.

Going to a football game in Prague would be a waste of time and money.

LKHK lives in hradec kralove which supports a second league football team - his views are therefore not objective. Czech football is slower, unforunately more corrupt and the crowds much less than in major european countries and nothing in czech football can live up to either watching hertha berlin in the olympic stadium or ajax in the amsterdam arena.

but czech football is much cheaper. you say you come to prague on 26th september for three days - this is wednesday, thursday and friday. there are no czech matches scheduled for this day unless one of the czech teams gets past the qualifying rounds of european competition. then, there may be a game on either wednesday 26th or Thursday 27th

Despite being labled as non-objective by the so called %26quot;expert%26quot; he basically confirms what I said.

Czech football is crap, anyone who can decently kick the ball plays abroad anyway (and what league my town plays hardly makes any difference).

Hey ,nothing wrong with Czech football,the Sparta Prague team must be absolutely brilliant to stuff Hearts in the Uefa Cup,(mind you Hearts were very poor).

I must admit I have been to a few games over the years in Prague and enjoyed them all,particularly the Bohemians,great atmosphere for a small crowd.

hradec Kralove used to be good. If I my memory serves me correctly, they were in the Cup Winners Cup some years back and I recall a thrilling match when they lost against dynamo moscow in the 90%26#39;s which bar the actions of the referee they should have won.

since then, village teams nearby such as lazne bohdalec have been in the first division but hradec kralove languish in the 2nd

Thank you all very much for your replies. I have decided to see Hertha BSC in the Olympic Stadium vs. either Borussia Dortmund or Hansa Rostock depending on the schedule. I cannot wait to have some European football memories of my own.

|||

Hope you enjoy tha game/games.

i have been to lots of football games in various european countries over many years and had some great times.

I did see Borussia Dortmund play Stuggart about 23 years ago and the German crowds were amazing (very noisy).

i think the team may have changed a bit since then.

saw dortmund beat hertha in the olympic stadium in berlin in may this year. dortmund were struggling against relegation at the time and so the match was vital. great game. could not believe how many dortmund fans there were - must have been 20,000 out of the 70,000 crowd. if you can get to this match, it will be much better than hertha v rostock
