I am trying to decided whether to book the Mandarin or FS in Prague for 2 nights in October. Both have some negative reviews and both have some excellent reviews. I am torn! Any insights or advice would be great!

Both are %26quot;less%26quot; than the normal FS or MO hotel - they are situated in small old buildings, just one restaurant, small lobbies, but they try hard. I would prefer the MO for its location, as it is away from the crowds. If you book the FS, book a room with a view. Otherwise the rooms could also be at a Intercontinental. Service is wonderful, as you would expect. MO has a nice small spa and the better bar.
I think they are the same quality; just manage your expectations, you will not find a George V in Prague...

martina is correct when she says that both the four seasons and mandarin oriental fall short of what you may expect. i prefer the four seasons due to its excellent location between the old town sqaure and the charles bridge. if you are spending that kind of money, consider instead the aria or alchymist on the castle side of the river

I was in the Aria Hotel, a small hotel but very special, in that it has very sound-proof rooms with an own PC (free internet) and high-tech music equipment for CDs and DVDs (movies) you can rent in their music library (the library manager is Decca%26#39;s Czech director). The rooms are a bit smallish but really great, especially if with view of the fabulous gardens, to which you have access now with your room-key. It has a roof terrace with best view of Prague for lunch or dinner (in good weather). The bathrooms have all the top-luxury facilities and a great rainfall-shower if no bath (not all rooms have a bath, one needs to make sure at reservation if you want one that has, but I loved the rainfall shower instead).
It is quite close to the Mandarin Oriental which I have seen inside (just the lobby) but I also think that hotel is much like other 5-star chain hotels whereas the small but cute Aria is more special (to me). Both are very quietly located. The spa of the M.O. is something the Aria does not have but I liked the (classical) music theme of the hotel and rooms and most of all the gardens (climb to it%26#39;s highest point, my favorite Prague viewpoint) which are open to the public during day (for a fee) but (till 9.30 PM) all to yourself after it closes. The Aria is almost next to the Hotel Alchymist and a great restaurant www.restaurant-david.cz .
