We%26#39;re going to Prague December 18-24th. We%26#39;re interested in seeing an opera/theatre while we%26#39;re there. We%26#39;ve looked into the Black Light theatre experience and it doesn%26#39;t seem to be our cup of tea. We would be interested in the Marionette Theatre and possibly also seeing an opera and picking up a classical concert.
The tickets are available on Prague Experience.com with a per ticket booking fee of 125cr.
Would anyone know if these types of booking fees apply if you buy at a theatre in Prague? What are the chances that these types of shows would be sold out or close to selling out with the bad seats left by the time we%26#39;d arrive? Our philosopy right now is to perhaps buy one set of tickets via the net and pay the booking fee and then gamble on the rest.
What do you think? ALso, any recommendations about venues that are really fantastic?
Thanks!

Since the National Theatre (Narodni Divadlo), State Opera House (Statni Opera) and the Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo) are all very small, even the worst seats still have a good view. I recently bought $6 tickets 1 hour before the show started at the Statni, but still a good view, the place is just so small.
Generally evening concerts sell out more than matinees. Operas are more busy than ballets. To go to an evening opera at Statni in the week before Christmas I would book in advance, to go to the ballet matinee, you could risk it.
I normally buy my tickets from Bohemia Ticket. The booking fee is 60CZK. I usually go in person, but you can book by phone or on the internet (although you still have to collect the tickets yourself) www.bohemiaticket.cz.
Finally, if you do go to the Statni Opera, go for dinner at Zahrada v opere . The food is really good. The place is usually fairly empty because of security round the Radio Free Europe building means it is no longer on the main drag.

black light and marionette theaters are both for tourists only - the locals know better and so would never go. they are never sold out and if you do decide to spend your time going to them, it is better to pay locally at the door without the booking fee

For opera and classical try Municipal House. Apart from the concerts the building is fascinating art deco. There are three places to eat inside and an interesting exhibition hall in the basement which is free - you can also roam around the building for free. You can book online but when we went in May 2006 there were plenty of ticket sellers on the pavement outside.

only classical concerts at the municipal house - no opera. look at what one of the largest agencies www.ticketsbti.cz have on their programme schedule

Went once to %26quot;Don Giovanni%26quot; performed by Marrionettes. Fortunately there was a break so I could leave...
