Restaurants?

Hi,

Will be travelling to Prague in mid-Aug which will be my first time to Prague. Looking for suggestions of restaurants for dinner. Would love to find a %26quot;typical%26quot; Prague bistro with great ambiance and food. Additionally, if there%26#39;s a restaurant %26quot;must do%26quot; -- perhaps known nationally or internationally -- that would be a great suggestion also.

Thanks in advance!

Shirley

We were there two weeks ago and ate at a couple of nice places. There are many nice places in town, but we weren%26#39;t there very long, so only got to sample a few. We had dinner at Hergetova Cihelna, which has a nice terrace overlooking the river and and great views of the Charles Bridge. There are a couple of restaurants in that immediate area, but this one seems to be the most popular, and I have to say that the view was excellent.

The other place (we actually liked this one so much, we ate here twice) is U Modre Kachnisky, which I think loosely translates to %26quot;Blue Duck%26quot;. Anyway, this is high quality Czech food, served in an old house, divided up into lots of rooms, both upstairs and down, so each dining area feels cozy and intimate. The service is very good, and they have a decent wine selection. There are two locations in Prague, one in the Little Quarter and one in Old Town. We ate at the one in the Little Quarter, and there was no view, to speak of, but the food and service were excellent. If you want to try local food, this may be as good as it gets, and it was quite good. If you don%26#39;t like hearty, meaty food, however, this may not be the place for you. Lots of meat, potatoes, cabbage and dumplings are on the menu. There were 4 of us, and we tried lots of different entrees. Our universal favorite was the duck with dried plum sauce. I don%26#39;t even like duck, as a rule, but this was delicious. Supposedly, lots of famous people have eaten here.

We also had lunch one day at a very good Italian place, Amici Miei, considered by many to be the best Italian in Prague. Located in Old Town, with an outdoor terrace on the street.

Again, thanks! Sounds like the duck should be on our menu!
