OK, I am not being obsessive in planning my trip... but given all the cobblestones street and castle steps would a lightweight pair of hiking shoes be in order, or are sneakers ok? Would a pair of Rockports blare out %26quot;American tourist?%26quot;

Hiking shoes are the best for Prague streets, imho. Just wear whatever shoes you%26#39;re comfortable in and which have thick enough outsoles. Consider also good sandals when it%26#39;s hot. This is what I%26#39;d recommend as best type of shoes for Prague streets:

In my many trips to Prague I have always worn lightweight hiking boots for daytime ,you need a thick sole to protect you from the sharp cobbles.Rockports are great,I very much doubt people will be spending a lot of time looking at your shoes.Thick soled sneaker would probably be fine too.

Wear hiking boots, you need the thick sole. Even when I was living in Prague I wore my hiking boots whenever I was doing shopping in town.
In terms of footwear, the one thing that blares out %26quot;American tourist – please rip me off%26quot; is white sneakers. I%26#39;ve often wondered if you get issued them at passport control as you leave the country? (In Europe white sneakers are only worn for sports.)

I was there last week and I wore my saucony running shoes and some diesal casual shoes and in both cases my feet felt good and they provided good traction on the cobbletsones.

Thanks all... Yep, the white sneakers are out. I learned that when I was in Chile. Also baseball-style caps.
Sadly expecting lots of rain this week in Prague.

baseball caps are pretty universal nowadays,i actually have several with Czech beer logos now as well as scotch whisky logos

I wore my Detroit Tigers hat because it was raining, it led to conversations with Indians fan harassing me abroad and it also led to an intersting conversation with a czec gentlemanh that has major interest in the MLB.
