Travel Between Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, Prague & Munich

I%26#39;m bringing my 73 year old parents September for their dream trip and want to make it easy.

I was planning on all trains. But I read some posts about busses that might be better. However, we cannot take any overnight trips (via train or bus...)

What do you suggest?

I was not planning on pre-booking except Prague to Munich. Is that OK?

I want to pre-book between Prague and Munich since we will be going on the first day of Oktoberfest and I want to be sure to have seats...

Very few websites have English portals.

Thank you!!!

there are direct trains @ 9:16 and 17:16 going direct to Munich. Price per person is 51,30 Euro%26#39;s! trip is 6 hours.

Deutsche Bahn%26#39;s got a english web-page and there%26#39;s lots of special discounts if you book in advance, travelling in groups and so on...

bahn.de/p/…international_guests.shtml

Bus goes only on Friday @ 15:30 from Florenc for 850 CZK = 30 Euro%26#39;s (extra charge for luggage, 100 czk per piece). Arriving on a subway station (i guess) in Munich @ 21:30! Station%26#39;s called Heimeranplatz.

trains between prague and vienna and vienna and munich and salzburg are easy. as heinokules says, the train to munich takes a long time and costs at lot. at over 50 euros per person for three people you may well find it just as cheap to have a private driver take you from prague to munich and the journey by car will be much quicker (4 hours as opposed to 6 hours on a not so luxurious train).

people like www.mike-chauffeur.cz and www.prague-airport-shuttle.com have been used before by people on this site for such journeys and can give you a price from prague to munich

Thank you for all the great info!

I will look into the train %26amp; car options. There are actually 4 of us travelling. So, perhaps a private car would be cheaper (and more comfortable.)

In my previous travels the price to upgrade to first class was never worth it. But I wonder if we do take the train for 6+ hours to Munich, would you upgrade, if you could? (My parents might cover the cost.)

train to munich is often busy and is an old type train so 1st class is better than 2nd class (unlike on the prague to vienna train where the train is brand new and the 1st class is not really worth the extra spend).

However, if 4 of you upgrade to 1st class, it will mean that a private transfer which takes 50% less time should be considered even more

I just checked the Mike%26#39;s Chauffer Service site and that%26#39;s the way we will go (it%26#39;s faster, more comfy and they will leave at the time of day that is good for us!!)

Thank you for the great info!!

We take a second class seat on the train on all other legs.

when i see the cars on the page, i%26#39;d ask them about the size of the trunk. otherwise try:

http://www.aidansairbus.biz/

they%26#39;ve got vans.
