Hi forgot to ask about weather conditions in August so we know what to pack for day and evenings. Are taxi%26#39;s expensive? Is there any dangers we should be aware of such as pick pockets etc? Any off the beaten track excursions away from tourist madness.
We are thinking of going to Montenegro... does anyone recommend this trip and have interesting facts for us.
Thanks

weather is hot. expect to have 25 degrees plus. montenegro is worth going to as it has sandy beaches as opposed to the pebble beaches in croatia. but there is huge building work in montenegro, so be cautious before you find you have booked a hotel next to a building site. montenegro%26#39;s currency is the euro
in croatia you will see lots of people walking on the beaches and swimming in the sea wearing what look like silly plastic shoes. they are for a purpose, as in some places the rocks are full of spiny sea urchins which are not pleasant to stand on. don%26#39;t try and risk it, buy a pair of shoes like everyone else, especially for kids

Thanks for the information 25 degrees will be a relief for us as Cyprus is currently in mega heatwave zone! Funny just bought 3 pairs of silly plastic shoes so glad to hear I haven%26#39;t wasted my money.
We will just be hopping over to Montenegro for the day not to stay.
Thanks again

cannot guarantee it will not be over 25 degrees. this year is very hot in croatia as well. check before you go about the situation regarding forest fires - they have had them in croatia as well as in other countries

Thanks again for your reply.... are taxi%26#39;s reasonable..... any tips on good restaurants, cafes or things to do with kids.... island visits which shouldn%26#39;t be missed?
|||
Montenegro is beautiful and well worth visiting from Dubrovnik. Island wise we did a day long trip to the three nearest, Sipan, Lopud and Kolocep. Lopud (think its that one) has a very pretty fort with great views which is well worth the steep hike upto it. Also Lokrum is only 30 mins or so away.
Personally I prefered Montenegro to Croatia.

thanks again..... is it a good idea to arrange transport from the hotel or is it easy from the airport to go in to town?
|||
Dubrovnik airport is south of the town on way in we just hopped in a taxi, on way out we were coming from Herceg Novi in Montenegro so arranged a transfer was about 40 euros if memory serves correct

Hi
I reckon the Prague forum is the friendliest on TA, if the question about Dubrovnik had been on any other one then the poster would have got very short shrift.
So I have decided I%26#39;m going to use this one for all my travel questions regardless of where I%26#39;m going :-) Not that I go anywhere much these days ;-( we haven%26#39;t been away for three weeks and it%26#39;s going to be four more before we have another trip.

apparently not. it would appear that there are more complaints about posts on this forum than most through prague lovers being very rude to people who post anything bad about their favourite city, experts who post meldrew type comments when people ask silly basic questions like %26quot;can you recommend a nice hotel or restaurant in prague?%26quot; with no other details and where a minimum of research could have found the answer and people who refuse to help stag parties when they ask questions like %26quot;where do I find the totty, which I expect will fall all over me simply because I come from the West?%26quot;
anyway, I think the forum is very friendly and there are a large number of people who post of here who have traveled widely from the look of the various forums that they have posted on, so if anyone asks a question about anywhere else apart from prague on here, I am sure that whilst the best place to post that comment will be on the relevant local forum for the place you are asking about, I am sure that if someone here has been there, they will give the best advice they can.
that is, unless Jackie, you ask questions about Hayling Island, because then you would get short shrift.
mrs peb posts on a forum in her own language where if someone asks something basic or makes a silly comment, other contributors can throw red bricks at you, so that when you open the thread up, as the person who has been dim, your screen is then full of red bricks being thrown at you depending on how dim you have been. I guess that Tripadvisor being American cannot introduce such a thing because otherwise lawyers would get involved

Hi
I%26#39;ve been to Hayling Island already so there!! And for reasons I%26#39;m not that sure of I wont be going back. I wouldn%26#39;t be able to answer any questions on it though as it didn%26#39;t really leave an impression.
We%26#39;re off to Bratislava soon, I can%26#39;t wait, we went last year when I had my undiagnosed broken leg so I spent most of the time wimpering and taking masses of pain killers. What I do remember though was that it is a very pretty small city with masses of cafe life.
We%26#39;re booked to come to Prague in January and looking at the advice given for that time of year it will be thermals and long johns.
Jackie
