Hope this is not a daft question.....
I have reserved a room at the Cloister Inn with Expedia on my credit card. The bill shows two prices, one in british pounds and one in euros. Should I settle bill with my credit card, or avoid charges by converting the amount in british pounds into CZKs??
Just confused as it doesn%26#39;t show me a bill in CZKs.

Check that Expedia have not charged you.
I have booked rooms through Expedia on several occasions and have always paid at time of booking,only having to pay additional costs (phone ,room service etc) at the hotel which I have paid in local currency or credit card.

Generally website bookings are automatically converted to our GBP amount. You will find very few sites that charge a credit card fee too. If Expedia haven%26#39;t charged your card, this means the hotel are using it as guarantee incase you %26quot;no-show%26quot;. You will then pay the balance directly to the hotel - this will be in CZK and then converted to GBP by your card issuer. If this is the case then the best way to guarantee you get the best rate is to pay cash on arrival.

Thanks for the advice, plan to pay cash on arrival now. Must admit, I have used expedia before and was expecting them to take full payment on my card but instead in was just used to reserve booking.

May I ask a question to those who book hotels with Expedia? if you have to pay at the time of booking, what is the advantages of using Expedia ? Are their prices so competitive? I noticed this payment upon booking condition with Expedia, so I have used them perhaps only once so far, a long time ago or have not yet I%26#39;m not sure. I tend to book either direct with hotels or with those site that do not charge upon booking, such as venere. Venere%26#39;s cancellation policy is quite generous, you can cancel 7 - 3 days usually before the arrival date without penalty. Although I have not made such last minute cacellation yet, still it%26#39;s a good thing for my piece of mind juts in case. And venere is not the only one. So I%26#39;m curious about those who book with Expedia. There must be good things but what ?

Piece of mind %26gt; peace of mind.

i always get a better rate when i book with the hotel directly on the internet. ...when you book with agencies like expedia you almost always pay more for the hotel - i always pay my hotel bill with my credit card
|||
I too book direct with hotels, but do check other sites. At the time of booking, expedia had the hotel room at a promotional rate.

www.yeego.com has a much better price for Cloister Inn than Expedia or any other website - including direct with the hotel.

In my experience, booking direct with hotels gets you usually the best price but there are exceptions. e.g. I booked a %26quot;junior suite%26quot; at Residence Mala Strana for last January for €45 through venere.com. I booked 2 months in advance. 1 months later I took a look at venere%26#39;s rate by chance again. Surprise, the rate was €33, quite a difference. SINCE THERE WAS NO UPON BOOKING PREPAYMENT with venere, I cancelled the original one and booked newly with the lower price. I was slightly worried about this maneuver of cancelling and re-booking but it went smoothly and no confusion at all. In this case, especially I was grateful of no pre-payment. I could not have done this with the sites that require prepayment. The hotel%26#39;s %26quot;internet discount rates%26quot; said €55. (Also the same room costed €88 at Easter top season, that I happily paid since it was relatively great deal compared to other hotels of the similar location).
If I prefer booking direct with the hotels, it%26#39;s mostly price but also I like corresponding directly with the hotel and make eventual requests such as quieter room, view, etc.

Hi
I think you will get more peace of mind by witholding your payment until you have received the service. I always find Expedia prices to be higher than other booking agents, in some cases over a third again. In Prague I use Tomas at travelcook.com, you pay on departure and often there are free extras which he has negotiated for you, for example we had free transfers from the airport last year and his rate was still cheaper than anyone elses.
Once they get your money they can do anything they like, there are postings from people who arrived at their hotel in Tallinn after pre-paying only to find they had been moved to a less convenient hotel and they had to accept it as the hotel already had their cash.
Lots of hotel bookers allow you to cancel up to 24 hours before and some even on the day without loss.
