My wife and I are quite excited about our upcoming visit, and particularly eager to stay in Pension Ve Vezi. I%26#39;ve emailed the pension requesting accomodation, and Marta has responded and offered the room and rate, which I%26#39;ve agreed to, but she asked for no deposit- only that I pay in cash when I arrive.
I%26#39;m curious, if not a little concerned. Is paying no deposit before arrival customary, or do you think I should do something else to make sure we%26#39;ll have a room?

Your room will be reserved. Do not worry. They will not need a deposit, in fact I%26#39;ve never been asked for a deposit when booking directly with a pension or hotel in CZ.
I think your trip is quite a long time away? If so 1-2 weeks before you arrive you can email back to double confirm your visit and advise an arrival time.
As a courtesy you should call and let them know if you get delayed or if you change your plans in any way.
The Czech%26#39;s get a lot of bad press on this forum for their unfriendly service, they don%26#39;t get enough good press for their trust and helpfulness to strangers.

Very good point!!!

That makes sense to me, ThirdPenguin.
I%26#39;m not surprised by the trust and helpfulness to strangers, either, especially in the small towns, where the service is much more personal. I only wanted to make sure I wasn%26#39;t making any bad assumptions about what I needed to do.
I%26#39;ll give a call or an email to Marta shortly before we leave, just to give a reminder that we%26#39;re on our way.
