Hi, I have had some great responses from this site already about places to eat and need some advice about transport.
We arrive 9pm Sun 5th Aug into Prague and are staying at Hotel Duo. What price can we expect to pay to get to hotel and what is the easiest/best way to do it?
Also I have read getting into the centre from the hotel involves a shuttle bus and the metro which sounds fine. How much is this and should we get a multiple day pass? (We are there for 3 days) Just wondering about getting back to hotel at night. I have read public transport back to the hotel stops at 12? If we wanted to get a taxi what is the best way to do this safely? I believe we can expect to pay around 200-250 CZK?
Many Thanks,
Jess

Since you will be arriving in the evening and the hotel is quite far away from the airport I%26#39;d recommend taxi. Public transport takes at leat 70 minutes and you have to chage bus/metro at least twice.
According to online fare calculator of the AAA Taxi the fare from the airport to the hotel should be 560 CZK (13 GBP).
AAA Taxi (yellow Skodas):
http://www.14014.cz/en/images/11501920481.jpg
are safe and reliable and are the only taxi company licensed to pick up passengers at the airport.
http://www.14014.cz/en/index.php?id=22
type in %26quot;Airport%26quot; for departure and %26quot;Teplicka 492/19%26quot; for arrival.
Avoid the silver VW Passats parked in front of the airport. They are not taxi and also there are many negative references on tripadvisor.

a) If you are in restaurant ask them to call a taxi for you and INSIST on AAA Taxi.
b) Buy a O2 or Smartcall prepaid calling card and call theAAA Taxi from any payphone dialing one of the following numbers:
+420 221 111 111
+420 222 333 222
+420 221 102 211
c) Buy a Vodafone prepaid SIM card for your mobile. The card costs 200 CZK and has 200 CZK credit. Call the AAA Taxi from your mobile dialing one of the following numbers:
+420 221 111 111
+420 222 333 222
+420 221 102 211
The fare to your hotel from:
Venceslas Sq.
Old Town Sq.
Republic Sq.
or the Prague Castle (I just picked the four most notorious tourist spots)
should be within 240-280 CZK.
3-day pass for any public transport in Prague (metro, tram, bus, Petrin funicular train) costs 220 CZK. Best place to buy them is at the airport. The Prague Transporatation Company (DPP) has booths in both arrival halls and they accept plastic money.
Business hours are daily until 22:00.

Thank you for all that information. Greatly appreciated!

Hi
Unless you have a reason for staying at this hotel then I would cancel and change to something a bit more convenient. I am a great advocate of public transport especially in cities like Prague but after reading the instructions on how to reach this hotel I wouldn%26#39;t begin to try it.

The metro stops at midnight, but even closer to the hotel stops the tram, from midnight till 6 in the morning. should be number 53 or 51? goes every 30 minutes. not sure, if there%26#39;s construction on the tracks in between, a bus should cover this part then.
if you fancy taxis, there%26#39;s city taxi as well. they%26#39;ve got a number you can order a taxi by sms: +420 777 257 257
compared with single 20 CZK tickets, you%26#39;d have to use public transport 4 times per day to make the 3 day pass (220 Czk) worthwhile. 20 CZK tickets are good for 75 minutes after validation.
you may also search this forum for airport shuttles if you%26#39;re not sure about getting to the hotel by metro at night.

Thanks for that info. Yes the reason for stayin at this hotel is budget! We booked it through teletext a month or 2 ago and it was a good deal so I%26#39;m happy with that. No way I%26#39;d dream of changing now as it looks fine for us and I%26#39;m not frightened of a bit of public transport! By the looks its best to get a AAA taxi from airport so we will do that.
Thanks for all the info.

We have just come back, and used www.prague-airport shuttle.com were excellent They meet you in the arrival hall, they waited while we bought 3 day transport tickets at 220 kc. The young american driver was full of advice and tips on the run in, and the pick up at hotel was 10 mins early. £30 pounds or 300kc return , book on line in advance but pay only when you get to hotel/airport.

Hi we stayed at Hotel Duo in dec 05 and although it is abit far
its a nice enough place to stay.
the hotel has its own mini bus that drops off and picks up from the nearest metro station, then its a round 2 stops to the centre of prague.

think that 560 crowns to hotel duo from the airport is a bit cheap. expect to pay about 700 crowns. as mentioned by JACKNORMAN above, one of the transfer companies such as www.prague-aiirport-shuttle.com should be able to make the transfer cheaper than a taxi. you can book return transfers.
JACKNORMAN also gives good advice on public transport tickets. You will need this every time you go into and out of the city, so buy the three day public transport ticket for 220 crowns at the airport where at least they speak english unlike at the nearest metro station to the hotel. the public transport office is in the arrivals hall on the right of the exit door once you have come through customs where you see the sign %26quot;metro - tram - bus%26quot;. The office is only open till 10pm, so as luggage takes time to be delivered at prague, you may want to send one of you through to buy transport tickets whilst others wait for luggage if your flight is late.
metro ladvi is about 15 minutes walk from the hotel. the last metro leaves the centre just after midnight. as heinokules says, tram 17 is also nearby and can take you directly to the castle area and tram 24 can take you to wenceslas square. the night tram 53 runs from wenceslas square and namesti republiky at about 20 minute intervals. you stay on until the end.
AAA%26#39;s main telephone number is 14014. they have english speaking people. you tell them where you are and where you want to go and they should be present within 15 minutes. 250 crowns is probably on the light side for night taxis - aim at 350 crowns.
