Hi,
I think I know Prague pretty well, worked there, lived there, have still a lot of friends.
The best choice to enjoy the city and not pay a fortune is to stay out of the most tourist%26#39;s hotels and sites.Little streets, just a few feet from a center of Prague.
Food is fabulous everywhere where you see locals.Good selection of food, you can get pretty much everything you want.
Try local pubs with good beer(alleys around the center),bakery with fresh baked goodies, and places which offer fresh made desserts and coffee.
Nightlife is safe as well as walking in the downtown ,don%26#39;t worry.
Don%26#39;t keep to much cash during a day and be carrefull in public transportation for pickpockets! They are usually gipsies or other nationalities...watch around and keep your vallet or purse on your stomach or in your hand in front of you.
Hotel are many, good but very often overprices, check online for B%26amp;B or Czech Hotels. If any questiones, write me. K.

Hi 1Bull,
For walking to the sights look for a Hotel with an address in %26quot;Prague 1%26quot;. This is the area where the main attractions such as Charles Bridge, Old Town Square and the Castle fall. To be more specific you can look in the district Mala Strana which is between the Bridge and the Castle and reasonably quiet. The main areas are safe to walk around as violent crime is low, but pick pocketing a problem everywhere.
Avoid Wenceslas Square as this is a more nightclub area and much more rowdy.
If you prefer to stay with the chain hotels the Marriott, Renaissance and Interconti are all well located, but the Hilton too far out to be convenient for walking around town. If you prefer a smaller hotel check out the reviews on this site of some others.

We have just come back from a stay in HOTEL ST GEORGE, in new town. very nice 3* superior which is 200 mtrs from trams , I P PAVLOVA metro, and 15 mins walk from Wenceslas square

We recently stayed at the Riverside Hotel, which is a boutique hotel located on the west side of the river, near the Jirasek Bridge. It%26#39;s about 1/2 kilometer south of all the tourist action, but there is a tram 3 blocks from the hotel that will take you right up into the action. The area is quiet and safe, and also, the hotel can arrange a car or taxi, neither of which are very expensive. The hotel itself is very nice, with great service, nice rooms and reasonably priced. Read the reviews on TripAdvisor. If you just have to stay in the middle of the tourist areas, sorry, I can%26#39;t help you there.

prague is safe to walk at night. the castle area is quieter than the old town. bit confused about your accomodation requests. in your initial post you ask for 4 or 5 star hotels (u zlaty studne has good reviews on this site). but later you ask for 3 or 4 star hotels in mala strana (hotel constans has good reviews). there is though a big difference between the two, so if you let us know which you are looking for, we can provide more choices
