I have to take 2 trams to get to my required destination. Do I need 2 tickets for this 1 journey? Also how get I get to the zoo from Mala Strana?

if you have a transfer ticket costing 20 crowns you can take as many trams as you like within 75 minutes in working hours and 90 minutes on non peak hours, including weekends. just stamp your 20 crown ticket at the start of your journey
tram 17 goes from malostranska across the river to troja. from there it is a 15 to 20 minute walk or you can the 112 bus to the end of the line.
a good way back is to walk across the river and through the stromovka park. at the other end of the exhibition grounds you can catch tram 17 back to malostranska metro

I found that the walk through stromovka park that peb suggests was a very nice walk but I got very lost (and I had a guidebook). I would suggest that if you have a digital camera take a picture of the posted map so that you can refer to it as you are walking. There are signs but not enough to really help!! I went on a weekeday afternoon so there were not many people to ask for help. It may be different in the early evening or on weekends.
Don%26#39;t make the mistake of taking the boat to and/or from the locks. It%26#39;s a long ride (most time is spent in the locks). The boat is pretty crowded and on my ride there were lots of overtired very unhappy kids who were excited to be on the boat for the first ten minutes... Not a fun journey!!

Many thanks. I%26#39;ve looked at the weather forecast Monday has 90% rain. Unsure now what to do as I don%26#39;t want to walk around getting soaked! I%26#39;ve had enough of rain this summer in Ireland to last a lifetime!

if you pick up a city centre map that many of the hotels give away for free, most of these cover the stromovka park and it is therefore quite easy to follow the path
forecast for monday is for showers so i would still go out. monday is a much better day than at the weekend when the zoo is crowded

sorry to hijack this threat....but im also going to prague tommorow night and flying back home tuesday....
so i%26#39;ve basically got all tuesday.....up until about 4pm to have a look at the city itself.
can someone recommend all the things i should see/do in this short time?
abdullah
ps.. how far is the airport from the city?
my hotel is on 26 seifertova...1300...... is this in old town?

take the green line metro from mustek in the middle of wenceslas square to malostranska metro, then taek tram 22 or 23 up to the castle look round the castle, walk down the hill to malostranske namesti across the charles bridge and then through to the old town. this will take you up till 4pm if you don%26#39;t look inside any of the buildings (you can walk around the castle as it is a public space)
seifertova is not in the city centre, but tram 9 takes you to wenceslas square. as there are trams running down the street day and night if you have a room facing the street, you may not get much sleep if you are a light sleeper. you can buy a 24 hour public transport card at the airport when you arrive
takes about 45 minutes for a taxi to the airport. as you are outside the city centre, the cheapest non public transport journey to and from the airport is to book in advance with someone like www.prague-airport-shuttle.com

thanks peb7..
one more question.. hope u see this before i leave today..
how can i get from airport to the hotel on seifertova? (public transport only)
|||
airport bus 119 from the airport to metro dejvicka where the bus terminates and the metro starts. metro to mustek - go out of the entrance to your right when you come out of the metro. up the escalators and take the first exit to your right to get to vodickova street. once at street level, cross the road and take the 9 tram from the vodickova tramstop in front of you (direction to cross wenceslas square and got towards the big tower down the street). number 9 tram goes all the way up seifertova street.
can do the whole thing on a 20 crown ticket but if you are only here for one day, buy a 24 hour ticket which is valid for 24 hours from when you first use it
