Driving a rental car from Munich and dropping off in Prague looks to be too cost prohibitive. Overnight train from Munich to Prague looks to be the #1 choice.
This is the only train I%26#39;m taking on my entire trip other than the Eurostar from Paris to London.
1. Does it make any sense for me to buy a Eurail pass??
2. If I buy a train ticket from www.bahn.de for Munich to Prague, do I still have to buy the Prague Excursion Pass?
3. How do the class of service differ on an overnight train? Do I have to purchase a sleeperette or couchette separately (in addition to the train fare) or do some class of service come w/ sleeping accomodations?
4. What%26#39;s the difference between a sleeperette and a couchette? Can someone point me to some pictures of the accomodations so I can make a better educated decision?
5. www.bahn.de lists a 2nd class fare at 215EUR, but there is also a Savings Fare listed at 58EUR. Other than ability to change your ticket, what is the difference between the Normal Fare and Savings Fare?
6. If in a multi-bed sleeping arrangement, should I be at all worried about my luggage security?
7. How much luggage can you bring on the train w/ you? I%26#39;ll probably have 2 large suitcases and two carry-on size bags.

Do you plan to take the EuroNight train No. 362 ORION??? I am a big fan of trains but taking a 10 hour train to cover distance of some 220 km is a bit overkill, because this train makes a huge detour via Dresden, Leipzig before heading south to Munich.
Have you thought about taking a plane? Alitalia has some relatively reasonable one-way fares for Prague-Munich (via Milan). 127 EUR incl. taxes on their website:

Eurail passes are generally not valid for the Czech Republic. I am personally not a fan of night trains. as LKHK rightly says, the night train goes a very long way round and you will be woken up at the border when you need to present your passport - in other words, i get little sleep on a night train and so the so called saving of a night%26#39;s hotel doesn%26#39;t work as I am like a zombie the next day.
on the night trains you need to buy the couchette or sleeper as a supplement. technically you can carry all the luggage you need on a train, but if you share a compartment with other people, they may not be happy with you taking up all the luggage space
If you want to travel by train, i personally think the afternoon 16.44 arriivng at 22.45 is better. it is also cheaper as you don%26#39;t need the sleeper ticket. do not know how many of you there are but if there are more than 2 of you, you may find it cheaper to have a driver come and pick you up from prague to take you to prague than paying three or four train tickets

The train we are looking at taking (according to raileurope.com) is train #363. Overnight - leaves at 10:05 p.m./ arrives 8:55 a.m. the next day. I found the pictures of the different sleeping accomodations as well as what is included w/ the price of the ticket.
The only thing I guess I%26#39;m still lacking info on is the Prague Excursion Pass. Is this required? I will be entering the country via train and leaving Prague via plane.
Thanks again for the help.

for more information go to the german railways website www.db.de as this is a german railways offering.
train tickets from munich to prague will probably be cheaper buying from deutsche bahn than from raileurope
