Looking for pubs with good food and beer. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Kolkovna%26#39;s beer is good -- it is owned by Pilsner Urquell. The food is usually pretty good, as well, focusing on Czech specialties. It can get busy there -- might be worth booking ahead.
You should try the pork knee (koleno). It is a bit fatty, but there is a lot of good tender meat. Served on an iron spit and big cutting board with mustard and horseradish.
Kolkovna is part of an expanding chain that includes very similar restaurant pubs around the city. Others in the chain include Olympia, Celnice, and Deminka.

I have been in U Medvidku several times over may many visits to prague ,great place with great food and fantastic beer, the buvar in there is superb but theu also make their own beer Oldgott which is worth trying. The food is very good and service excellent but the place gets very busy especially at weekends ,though on our last trip(May) our group of 3 had no problems getting a place to eat and drink.
I answered your question on the Strahov Monestry and can highly recommend the Kasterini Pivovary,I have eaten there several times and the food is great, the St Norberts amber beer is wonderful.

the above pubs are all good, but the question is where are you staying? we can probably recommend you a place nearby your hotel

Thanks all. Great info. Staying at the Irongate. Not a problem walking a mile or two for something fun and good.

u vejvodu and u zlateho tygra are down the same street as the iron gate. u medvicku as mentioned above is also nearby, as is u zeleneho stromu on betlemske namesti

Kolkovna is a favourite of mine.

Thanks all for the tips. Did a mapquest from the hotel to the pubs. Maybe I won%26#39;t get lost.....LOL

most hotels have free maps of the city centre at reception. prague is easy to navigate around. if you get lost, it will be down a small side street and you will be happy as you will probably discover something that you would otherwise not have discovered
