Train/bus from Prague to Zagreb with overnight in Vienna?

Hi;

My husband and I are traveling to Prague where we will be for 1 week and then we are going to Zagreb. Any advice on best way time/expense to get there? We are planning on staying overnight in Vienna on the 29th traveling onto Zagreb on 30th Oct. and returning on day trains Zagreb to Prague non-stop on Nov. 4th. Any advice on best routing and pricing would be great. Also any advice on what to see and do while there would be fantastic.

Thanks much.

My goodness you must like train journeys! That%26#39;s a 12 hour trip.

Directr trains between Prague and Vienna, then direct again between Vienna and Zabreb (Glavni Kolod).

For train times, best for you to make up your own mind. I like either deutschbahn (www.db.de) or swiss railways (www.sbb.ch) websites for finding out pan-european train times.

I guess your looking at US$200- 300 for the trip, but someone else might know better. You will do best to buy your ticket once you get to Prague - the international rail ticket websites tend to overcharge.

from prague to vienna check:

scpendolino.cz/en/…page.xhtml

it%26#39;s discount tickets for the pendolino train, you can only buy in czech republic. there%26#39;s a link :

scpendolino.cz/en/…page.xhtml

where you can buy your ticket by phone call, don%26#39;t know if valid for discounted tickets. otherwise the fare is double that much. vienna/ zagreb, zagreb/prague i%26#39;d ask in the bosnia? forum...

for train times from vienna to zagreb, swiss or german railways are not really the sites to look at if the journey doesn%26#39;t go through germany and switzerland. try looking at the austrian railways site www.oebb.at

question is, what are you going to do overnight in vienna. it does not seem long enough to look at the city. if you want an overnight stop, there is a direct train from prague to ljubljana every day leaving prague at 0632 and arriving ljubljana at 17.32, with an onward connection to zagreb which can have you in zagreb at 20.00. therefore you can do the journey in one day instead of in two
