Length of stay in Prague

I%26#39;m spending 6 1/2 days in prague. Is that too long? i know i can do a couple of day trips. after staying in prague i%26#39;m heading down to cesky krumlov for 2 days. should i cut the prague portion down? maybe split it with plzen? my wife and i are pretty active tourist but some days we just like to chill and not do a whole lot.

oh by the way, we plan on heading down to salzburg for 2 days and then over to vienna for another 6 days where one day is set aside for a day trip to bratislava. we like to see a lot but also if we find something we like to do, we%26#39;ll do it more than once. hence the reason for so much time in each city. with all this time, is there something we are missing between the two countries we should fit in?

I always say this - I lived in Prague for 2½ years and I still didn%26#39;t get to see everything.

1 day for castle area + Strahov

1 day for old town + Charles Bridge.

1 day for Josefov, jewish museums + a short rivier boat trip.

1 day for Mala Strana + funicular up to Petrin Hill.

Then choose from

Day trip to Karlstejn castle

Day trip to Kutna Hora

Day at one of the national galleries - I like Veletrzni %26quot;palace%26quot;, but various types of art in different locations see www.ngprague.cz

Day at Vysehrad castle area + walk through Vinohrady.

Another day in Old Town and New Town (nove mesto) area, you really can just spend days wandering round here.

We spent four days in Prague last summer and had a wonderful time. Six days in Prague sounds like enough time to explore the city and also give you some %26quot;chill%26quot; time. I can%26#39;t comment on Pilzen since we didn%26#39;t visit there. You won%26#39;t need more than one overnight stay in Cesky Krumlov since it is small but I would definitely include it. Also, I am glad you included Salzburg because that is defintely a must-see. Have a great time.

I was there for 30 days in July and still didn%26#39;t see everything!! Check out the trip report that I posted last week under adnil1962.

I think you have it about right.is there a particular reason for visiting Plzen?(ie the brewery) as it%26#39;s a pretty industrial town but easily reached on a day trip from Prague.

kutna Hora is another lovely little town for a day trip that is only an hour in the train from the city. Karstiejn castle can be reached in 30-40 minutes from Prague.

thanks for all the feedback. seems like timing is about right. as for visiting plzen, yeah it was basically for the brewery. it%26#39;s not a must see. i think that day can be better used in prague or kutna hora.

tydeee, the brewery is great and about a 5-7 minute walk from the train station ( takes about 90 minutes from Prague).I have been there 3 times now and will go back again, they have built a new visitor center and recently have included the new bottling hall in the tour ,they were in the process of opening up the old brewing areas for visitors when i was there in May and hopefully that will be opened soon if not already.there is a great resturant there as well.

lots of good bars in the town http://www.classiccitybrew.com/pilsen.html

as well as a very nice cathedral.

if you want specific details of how to get there just ask.

BTW my avatar is a picture of me being poured a beer from the great barrels in the brewery cellars, you will never taste it,s like anywhere else ,absolutly sublime.

i would stay one night between prague and salzburg in cesky krumlov. there are trains with a change at ceske budejovice (you can visit here instead of plzen to see the original budweiser) and there is a bus shuttle from cesky krumlov to linz station from where it is easy to take the train to salzburg.

bratislava from vienna is easily able to be made in a day trip. the twin city liner hydrofoil is more expensive than the train but the journey by river is much better

unclegus, you just put plzen back into the intinerary. maybe a day trip is worth the visit. again, thanks for the feedback guys.

Two days in Salzburg is more then enough, you could reduce time there and still feel like you got the most out of it. It%26#39;s a nice little town. If you want down time take it in Prague or Vienna. You will have more options on what to do or where not to do it. Vienna is amazing and I can%26#39;t say enough about the Schonbrun Palace. If I was to go back I would spend a whole week in Prague and Vienna.
