Train from Prague to Budapest

I%26#39;m having difficulty being able to book 2 train tickets online in advance for our journey from Prague to Budapest (the 2nd leg of our journey) in late September.

I%26#39;ve had the best luck with timetables, etc at bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en however neither at that site or at any other sites I%26#39;ve tried (including the Czech rail site www.cd.cz/ ) allow me to book these tickets in advance.

I arrive by air in Prague 4 days prior to our rail journey and am worried that may not be enough in advance to purchase tickets in person...

Are my worries misplaced?

FWIW, the specific train I%26#39;m after is:

depart Praha-Holešovice 11:35

arrive Budapest-Keleti pu 18:17

EC 171 HUNGARIA

usually it%26#39;s enough time. if too worried, you may call this number:

+420 840 112 113

buying 24 hours in advance is usually sufficient unless say, you are traveling on a friday or sunday afternoon. even then you can stand or sit in the corriodr with a ticket

either go to holesovice station beforehand and buy your ticket or buy it from the czech railways city centre office next to the marriott hotel on v celnice street. you are correct that it is almost impossible to buy a ticket by internet on the czech railways webiste unless you speak czech

train to budapest starts at berlin so especially if you are going 2nd class, book a seat reservation (but needs to be done 24 hours in advance) as otherwise is there is a group of you, you may find thta you are not able to sit together

although train leaves holseovice at 11.35, it arrives at 11.21

Just got back from a Budapes-Vienna-Prague trip. Intercity was by train. In Budapest and Vienna I just went to the train station the day before and bought tickets, no problems.

You will be asked if you want to reserve a place, this costs extra to have an assigned seat. We did for 1 trip but not the other.

For such a trip I suggest first class for the better seats. Enjoy your trip.

agreed. first class is in many cases only 50% more and worth the extra cost

%26quot;first class is in many cases only 50% more and worth the extra cost%26quot;

I just took this train last Sunday (did travel only to Brno) and 2nd class was very packed, mostly tourists.

No problem to find a seat in 1st class and it%26#39;s well worth the money for such a long trip.
