speaking german in prague?

I will be visiting prague this fall and plan on learning basic words like %26quot;thank you%26quot;, %26quot;please%26quot;, and %26quot;excuse me%26quot;, but if english is not an option for bigger questions, would my weak german work?

practically everyone you will meet in the tourist center of prague speaks english frighteningly well. you will not need any german to fall back on in prague - this works in the countryside, but is not needed in the capital

Thanks! That%26#39;s good to know. This is my first visit to Europe so I am a little anxious about having everything covered! :D

Here%26#39;s a web site that might help

http://travlang.com/languages/

It will help you learn some basic words. I found the Czech people were also more than happy to help me learn. I showed an interest and they responded in kind.

I watched a show about Praha last night and my wife is already trying to figure out how to get back there.

the problem with the czech langauge is that even if you try to speak it noone will understand you as the pronounciation is very difficult. as said above, in the tourist area of prague you can get around without knowing a word of czech - menus are in english at restaurants and most of the people you will come across speak english
